The voting is over and the result of the Turkey Street by-election on August 10th is through. Unfortunately the Liberal democrat candidate, David Peters, didn't win the seat. The turnout was a lowly 24.8% - boasted by 56% of postal voters returning their ballot papers. Having the by-election during August probably helped the Tories just about retain the seat.

The result :

Conservatives 877 (40.1%)

Labour 874 (40.0%)

UKIP 174 (8.0%)

SCHF 133 (6.1%)

LibDem 77 (3.5)

Green 51 (2.3%)

Afterwards David Peters said "I'd like to thank all those people who voted Liberal Democrat. It was always going to be a tough election to win, but your support means a lot to me. Over the course of the election lots of important local issues have been raised, we should all make sure that these are tackled by the council, rather than being swept under the carpet as happens all too often."

Enfield Liberal Democrats chairperson, Brian Cronk, added "I want to thank David for all his hard work. Over the three week campaign he worked tirelessly and we were all impressed by his ideas, dedication and enthusiasm."
